ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team defeated the ETBU Tigers 4-0 in the American Southwest Conference championship tournament semifinal match on Thursday to advance to the ASC championship match on Saturday.
The Cowgirls entered as the top seed in the ASC tournament and hosted the semifinals on Thursday against East Texas Baptist. HSU advances to play the winner of the UMHB and Howard Payne women's match later in the day.
Hardin-Simmons got the game-winner in the opening goal from
Lexi Templin after a cross from
Caroline Burrow to make it 1-0 in the 14
th minute.
Grace Bales added a goal for the Cowgirls with an assist from
Taylor Koch to make it 2-0 HSU in the 28
th minute.
The Cowgirls got a goal from
Aras King on a header in from a
Kaylee Maddox corner kick to lead the game 3-0 in the 51
st minute.
Templin ran down a ball in from
Presleigh Thiessen to finish for the fourth Cowgirl goal and her second of the day in the 67
th minute. Templin now leads the ASC with 15 goals this year.
The Cowgirls led with 24 shots and 11 shots on goal to four shots and one shot on goal by the Tigers. Hardin-Simmons had 12 corner kicks and allowed only one.
Jenna Russell started in goal for the Cowgirls and went full-time in the shutout win.
The Cowgirls improve to 16-1-2 and advance to the ASC championship match on Saturday to be played at 4:30 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex against the winner of UMHB and Howard Payne.
