ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team advanced to the ASC championship match after a tournament semifinal win 4-1 over the ETBU Tigers on Friday night playing at Wylie high school.
The Cowboys were fortunate enough to have the folks at Wylie high school in Abilene provide their turf field to host two ASC tournament semifinals on Friday night after inclement weather, and we could not be more thankful for all of those that made the site move possible.
Hardin-Simmons and ETBU battled to a scoreless end to the first half. The game was nearly even in shots with 15 by the Tigers and five on goal and HSU finishing with 16 shots and six shots on goal.
The second half saw the Cowboys come alive with four goals to help advance to the ASC championship match on Sunday against LeTourneau.
Senior
Dylan Caudle went up top for his second goal of the year on a header in from
Brandon Krohn to get the Cowboys the lead 1-0 in the 52
nd minute.
Another Cowboy set piece allowed Krohn to cross one into
Daniel Villagomez for the second Cowboy goal in the 58
th minute.
Krohn hit his third assist of the night on a corner to
Maxwell Winneker, who scored his sixth goal of the year in the back corner to make it 3-0 in the 72
nd minute.
Villagomez found himself alone at the back of the net to score in the 78
th minute to make it four Cowboy goals, Villagomez with his second goal of the night. ETBU added a goal late for a Cowboy win 4-1 Friday.
Carson Null started in goal for HSU and had four saves in the win.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 11-5-2 and head coach
Brad Bankhead has the Cowboys headed back to the ASC championship match on Sunday at 2 p.m. against the LeTourneau Yellowjackets at the HSU Soccer Complex.
