KERRVILLE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team fell 80-66 playing at the Schreiner Mountaineers on Saturday night in the second game of opening weekend for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys had a tough shooting day with 33% makes at Schreiner, exacerbated by the great shooting day from the opponent who shot 48%.
The Cowboys were able to cut into the deficit in the second and were within nine points of Schreiner on three occasions in the second half but couldn't get any closer late and went down 80-66.
Austin Brewer led the Cowboys with 14 points and had the team lead with nine rebounds, tied with
Chris Bryant in rebounding.
Asher Fleming scored 13 points, while
Silas Livingston and Bryant got 12 points each for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowboys fall to 1-1 on the season and will have a quick turnaround playing at McMurry on Monday night at 6 p.m. in Abilene.
