TOPEKA, Kansas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy track and field team opened the season at the Washburn Alumni Invitational indoor meet on Saturday with a record in the high jump.
Gunner Helm set the Cowboy track indoor record in the high jump with a clear of 6-6 ¾ ft. Helm broke the old record of 6-4 ¾ ft. which Helm shared with
Layton Ranson previously.
Donovan Simmons led the Cowboys in the 60m with a 7.05. Courtland Short ran 7.11,
Kaden Landeros ran 7.41, Parker Sexton ran 7.50, and
Brett Zamzow ran 7.52 in the 60m.
Dylan Mann ran a 9.57 to lead HSU in the 60m hurdles. Adan Santoyo led the Cowboys in the 200m with a time of 22.72.
Many Cowboys also ran in the 200m. Short finished in 22.79, Simmons had a 22.95, Angel Alvarado ran 23.63, and Zamzow had a 24.17.
Chris Freeman ran a 24.22 200m and Mann came in at 25.76.
Santoyo also led the team in the 400m with a 50.76. Zamzow ran a 53.83, Alvarado had a 54.38, and Micah Klinkerman ran 57.16 in the 400m.
Freeman ran a 600 yard time of 1:20 and Noah Bela ran an 800m in 2:08 to lead Hardin-Simmons.
Elijah Holmes led in the mile run with a 4:40. Aiden Seekins ran 4:40.65, Bela finished in 4:50, and Nathan Oxte ran 5:07 in the mile. Seekins ran the 5k in 16:15.
Garret Rothans had a high jump of 6-2 ¾ ft. Blake Osteen cleared 5-7 ft. in the indoor high jump.
Landeros led the Cowboys in the long jump with a 21-5 ft. landing.
Jake Deviney cleared the pole vault at 12-7 ½ ft.
Nathan Mangual led HSU in the shot put with a 43-10 ½ ft. throw.
Evan Hanson threw 42-7 ft., Jahymeer Larkins threw 39-9 ¾ ft., and Robbie Almendez threw 38-2 ¾ ft.
Markus Stone led the Cowboys in the triple jump with 40-3 ½ ft. Hanson led in the weight throw at 40-10 ½ ft. and Mangual threw for 40-1 ½ ft.
