ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team took total control in the second half and won 95-72 over the McMurry War Hawks on Saturday for Cowboy senior day in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowboys honored two senior players before the game, who are each having seasons to remember,
Austin Brewer and
Will Bartoszek.
The Cowboys were evenly matched at 17-17 with the War Hawks just over ten minutes into the game. Hardin-Simmons made the most of the final few possessions in the first half and got up to a 37-30 lead.
The Cowboys came out red-hot in the second half with six makes in a row to extend the lead to 53-36 less than four minutes into the half.
Hardin-Simmons went on to outscore the War Hawks 58-42 in the second half and lead by as many as 26 points, with dunks from
Chris Bryant and Bartoszek carrying the momentum of the game.
The Cowboys would go on to win 95-72 after shooting 52 percent from the field in the second half and winning the rebounding 51-35 over McMurry.
Six different Cowboys scored double-digits in the commanding win. Brewer led with 21 points and ten rebounds for a double-double.
Colin Roberts went for 17 points shooting 7-9 and
Jason Justice scored 14 and led the team with six assists.
Chris Bryant had a career-high 14 points going 7-11 from the floor, and Bartoszek and
Trevion Howell each scored ten points in the Cowboy win.
The Cowboys improve to 18-5 and 10-3 in the ASC with a final road trip at Concordia Texas on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. and the final regular season game at UMHB Saturday at 3 p.m.
