SHREVEPORT, La. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team won 3-2 and 7-3 against the Centenary Ladies on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader to end the opening weekend with a record of 4-0.
Centenary got on the board in the first inning of game one, but the Cowgirls tied the game with a sac fly from
Erin Love in the second inning.
Freshman
Emily Jacobs doubled home a pair of RBIs for the Cowgirls to go up 3-1 in the third inning.
Centenary would score again in the third inning, but the Cowgirls held the lead to win 3-2 in game one.
Haven Williams started and pitched a complete game with seven hits and one earned run allowed in seven innings for the Cowgirl win.
Haley Henson led the Cowgirls with two hits in the leadoff spot. Jacobs led the Cowgirls with two RBIs and Love had one RBI.
The Cowgirls took game two against Centenary 7-3.
Kelly Shackelford started and pitched all seven innings with just one hit and a strikeout in the Cowgirl win.
Lindsey Ratcliffe singled to score the first Cowgirl run and
Madi Hubbard had another RBI to make it 2-0 Hardin-Simmons in the top of the first inning. Centenary came back to take the lead 3-2 in the first inning.
The Cowgirls tied the game in the fourth on a wild pitch and took the lead with a Love RBI. Henson drove in another Cowgirl run in the fourth inning to make it 5-3 HSU.
Ashley Easley drove in a run with a single in the fifth inning and Hubbard hit a sac fly in the seventh inning to make it a 7-3 win for Hardin-Simmons.
Henson had two more hits in game two and an RBI. Hubbard led the team with two RBIs while Easley also had two hits for the Cowgirls and stole two bases.
The Cowgirls improve to 4-0 on the season and will head to San Antonio next weekend to play two games at Trinity on Friday at 5 p.m.
