ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team prepares to host the East Texas Baptist Tigers in the American Southwest Conference Women's basketball Championship Tournament semifinal on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
Tickets for the ASC Basketball Championship Tournament are all online at hsuathletics.com under Fan Zone and Tickets. Tickets are $15 for a 1-day pass or $25 for a tournament pass that will get you in Friday and Saturday.
HSU students get in for free entering on the Fetcher Fitness Center-side door at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls finished the regular season 22-3 and 14-2 in the ASC to earn the regular season championship and the right to host the ASC Tournament. They advance straight to the semifinals to take on ETBU, who won at McMurry Tuesday in the ASC quarterfinal.
The Cowgirls had a bitter meeting with the Tigers of ETBU for the first Cowgirl loss this season early in the year in a one-point defeat on the road. HSU avenged that with a big win over the Tigers at home earlier this year.
The Cowgirls and head coach
Kendra Whitehead have now been to the ASC Tournament in all six years of Whitehead's career coaching at Hardin-Simmons. Last season, the Cowgirls won their first NCAA Tournament game since 2006 against Redlands in the first round.
The Cowgirls lead the ASC in scoring with 85.5 points per game led by a handful of outstanding seniors.
Paris Kiser is second in the league with 19.5 points per game, and
Samantha Tatum and
Parris Parmer are also near the top in the ASC with 12.2 and 12.0 points a game, respectively. Parmer leads the Cowgirls and is in the top-10 for rebounding in the conference.
Senior transfer
Anna Fanelli has twice as many assists as the next ASC point guard, with 149 on the year, averaging six assists a game.
The Cowgirls will take on ETBU for the ASC Championship Tournament semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
