Box Score 2 CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the University of the Ozarks in the second game of an American Southwest Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon in Clarksville, Ark. Ozarks won the first game 6-3.
Game 1
Ozarks broke open a scoreless game with four runs on five hits in the third inning. Nicholas Bennett had the big blow with a two-run triple. The Eagles added another run in the fourth.
HSU broke up a no-hitter in the top of the fifth on a
Baylan Vaughan single and scored on a
Karson Leatherwood fielder's choice. Ozarks added another run in the fifth on a Brice Cagle home run.
The Cowboys got a two-run home run from
Gannon Azios in the seventh inning to cut it t 6-3.
Brandon Girod started and allowed four runs in two and one-third innings to take the loss.
Caleb Smith worked the final three and two-third innings allowing two runs on six hits.
Christian Estrada (2-1) worked five innings and allowed one unearned run and struck out six in the win for Ozarks.
Vaughan had two of the five Cowboy hits in the game. Issac Price led Ozarks with three hits.
Game 2
Senior
Wyatt Tumlinson (1-3) put an end to the streak with a dominating nine-inning three-hit shutout. He struck out a career-high 10 in the game.
Vaughan put the Cowboys on the board in the first inning of the second game with an RBI single. It remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when
Sam Buchkowski had an RBI double to give the Cowboys a 2-0 lead.
The Cowboys added an insurance run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Nick Elllington.
Vaughan had two of the seven Cowboy hits. Bennett led the Eagles with two hits.
HSU is now 2-9 overall and 1-4 in the ASC. Ozarks is 7-5 overall and 4-1 in ASC play.
The two teams will close out the series with a single game at noon on Saturday.
