SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in the first day of the Trinity Invitational with record tying-jumps and a pair of first-place finishes on Friday.
Gunner Helm tied the Cowboy outdoor track record in the high jump with a first-place clear of 6-8 ¾ ft. He shares the record with Isaiah Poston, who qualified for nationals in his record year.
Kylah Holland took first in the 3k steeplechase running an 11:05. Jazmin Mendez finished the steeplechase in 12:36 for the Cowgirls.
Emmalee Horton placed third overall in the high jump with a 5-1 ¾ ft. clear for the Cowgirls.
Abby Guerra,
Avalon Griggs, and
Sophie Hale all had a high jump of 4-6 ft. for HSU.
Evan Hanson led the Cowboys in the hammer with a 140-7 ft. toss, good for ninth at Trinity.
Nathan Mangual threw a 123-4 ft. hammer for Hardin-Simmons.
Danielle Sauls led the Cowgirls in the long jump with a 16-1 ft. leap.
Emerald Garcia jumped 15-3 ½ ft. and
Abby Bramlett landed at 14-10 ft. for HSU.
Davare Payne jumped 21-1 ½ ft. for the Cowboys in the long jump and
Kaden Landeros landed a 21-0 ¼ ft. long jump.
Hardin-Simmons will continue tomorrow at Trinity in San Antonio, beginning at 10 a.m.
