LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team fell 9-0 to the Occidental Tigers to wrap up the Cowboy trip to California for spring break.
The Cowboys went down in order but took a lot of games in the loss. The one and two doubles teams of
Justus Petersilie and
Luke Cantu at one and
Zach Fowler and
Payne Smith at two each dropped 8-6 to the Tigers.
Petersilie and Smith went down to Oxy 6-4, 6-4, in both one singles and four singles.
Brandon Curiel played to a 6-4, 7-5 defeat at No. 5 singles for the Cowboys.
Fowler pushed to the tiebreaker in his final game, going down in three singles 6-4, 7-6(7-4) to Occidental.
The Cowboys fall to 2-7 after playing some of the best Division III tennis opponents you can find on the west coast and will take the weekend off before hosting the Sul Ross State Lobos on March 21 at 2 p.m. at the Striech Tennis Center in Abilene.
