Portales, N.M. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy outdoor track and field team ran at the Eastern New Mexico Greyhound Open on Saturday.
The Cowboy team won the meet at Eastern New Mexico with a team score of 189 points, beating the second place 113.
Garret Rothans got in the record books and is currently leading the nation in the high jump after a clear of 6-10 ¾ ft. The previous Cowboy outdoor track record in the high jump was 6-8 ¾ ft. by Isaiah Poston in 2022, who qualified for nationals with the jump.
Zach Mitchell led the Cowboys in the 1500m run with a time of 4:17.
Davare Payne ran a time of 14.66 in the 110m hurdles for Hardin-Simmons.
Miller Young led the team in the 400m with a 54.97.
Kaden Landeros led the Cowboys in the 100m dash with a time of 11.25. Landeros also led the Cowboys in the long jump, landing a distance of 22-1 ¾ ft.
In the 400m hurdles,
Chris Freeman clocked a 1:02 for Hardin-Simmons to lead his squad.
Billy Heath led all Cowboys in the 200m race with a finish of 23.25.
Evan Hanson led the team in the shot put throwing for 44-3 ½ ft. Hanson led the field at Eastern New Mexico in the discus with a throw of 144-9 ft.
Jake Deviney cleared 12-9 ½ ft. in the pole vault to represent the Cowboys.
Darius Bishop led the Cowboys in the triple jump competition, landing a 41-10 ½ ft. jump.
Hardin-Simmons outdoor track will head to San Angelo to compete in the 52
nd David Noble Relays at Angelo State from April 4-6.
