Postgame Press Conference
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team went down 73-55 to the No. 1 ranked New York University Violets on Friday night to end the run in the NCAA Sweet 16.
The Cowgirls advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 with a win over Trinity in the second round that HSU hosted in Abilene. They drew the top team in the nation in the next round at NYU.
The Cowgirls opened the game battling with the Violets in their own gym and trailed 20-16 after one quarter. NYU shot 60 percent in the second quarter to extend their lead to 47-30 over the Cowgirls at the half.
The top-ranked NYU came out in the second half and shot 50 percent in the third quarter and ended with the win over the Cowgirls 73-55 to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight.
Hardin-Simmons shot 37 percent and was held to eight 3-point attempts by the staunch Violet defense. NYU shot 53 percent from the field and led with 36 rebounds to 25 for HSU.
The Cowgirls were led on offense with three seniors in double-figures.
Paris Kiser scored 13 points, and
Samantha Tatum and
Parris Parmer each scored ten points.
Head coach
Kendra Whitehead ends the year steering the Cowgirls to a record of 26-4 as the 2024 ASC Champions, finishing in the NCAA Sweet 16 round against the No. 1 overall team in the nation.
