VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy indoor track freshman triple jumper Davare Payne placed No. 13 in the nation in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at Norfolk State.
 
Payne qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with one of the top-20 triple jump marks in the country as a freshman earlier this season with a record for the Cowboy program.
 
He jumped 45-11 ¼ ft. in his second jump at the NCAA nationals on Saturday to place No. 13 in the nation.
 
Payne wraps up his indoor season at the NCAA Championships and will continue with outdoor track for the rest of the spring. He has already captured the Cowboy outdoor record in the triple jump and will get another chance to build on it next weekend at the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational meet in Abilene.
