ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team split two games with the LeTourneau Yellowjackets in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday at Ellis Field.
The Cowgirls took game one 5-3 and fell to LeTourneau 8-1 in the second game of the night.
Haven Williams pitched a complete game with two strikeouts in the win in game one for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls fell behind 2-0 in game one before going up 4-3 in the fourth inning with an RBI from
Madison Mayhew to tie and
Abby Seitzinger driving in the go-ahead run with an RBI-single.
The Cowgirls tacked on another run from an
Ashley Easley RBI to make it a 5-3 win in game one.
Emily Jacobs, Easley, and
Minely Avila all had two hits in game one. Mayhew led with two RBIs and
Haley Henson, Seitzinger, and Easley had RBIs as well.
Game two was rolling along nicely with a scoreless duel until the fifth inning when LeTourneau hit a home run to go up 3-0. The Yellowjackets went on to win 8-1.
The Cowgirls had five hits in game two, with just three through six innings. HSU scored its lone run in the final inning from an Easley single.
Mayhew had two hits in game two and
Haley Henson doubled, while Ellas Salinas and Easley rounded out the offense.
Jorey Hood had the loss in five innings with two strikeouts.
Kylie Ruiz ended the game with three strikeouts in two innings.
The Cowgirls move into the final game of the series at 21-9 and 10-7 in the ASC while LeTourneau sits at 15-16 and 8-9 in conference play. The Cowgirls will have Cowgirl Senior Day on Friday before the noon start for game three of the series against LETU at Ellis Field.
