Box Score 2 LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader with LeTourneau, winning 4-1 in the first game before falling 13-2 in the nightcap, on Friday at Conrad-Vernon Field in Longview.
Game 1
The Cowboys scored first with two runs in the second inning.
Sam Buchkowski had an RBI single to center field to drive home a run and HSU scored another run on a wild pitch later in the inning.
HSU did some two-out damage to add a run in the third.
Karson Leatherwood beat out an infield single and
Luke Kirkbride was hit by a pitch and
Nick Ellington followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.
Jett Forrest extended the lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run with two outs. It was his third home run of the season. Hayden Norris had a sacrifice fly for the Yellow Jackets for their only run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Senior
Caidon Livingston went the distance on the mound and allowed just one run on five hits and struck out five batters, including Norris looking to end the game with runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh. He improved to 2-1 on the year.
Kyler Reed and Leatherwood had two hits each for the Cowboys. Dalton Pickett took the loss for LeTourneau allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Zach Zarko had two of the five LeTourneau hits.
Game 2
Reed gave the Cowboys a lead in the first with an RBI double. Dane Jones tied the game with the first of his three home runs on the night.
The game remained 1-1 until the fifth inning when LeTourneau scored four runs on five hits. LeTourneau added six runs on eight hits in the sixth inning.
Reed had an RBI groundout in the seventh inning and LeTourneau scored two more runs in the seventh.
Baylan Vaughan had two of the four HSU hits in the game. Kevin Soto had four hits and drove in three runs and Jones had three home runs and drove in four.
Wyatt Tumlinson allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings to take the loss.

Grayson Bearden worked in relief for the Cowboys. Ryan Brewer allowed just one run and struck out nine in his five innings of work to earn the win.
HSU is now 12-22 overall and 7-13 in league play. LeTourneau is 14-21 overall and also is 7-13. With the expected weather on Saturday, the final game of the series will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. most likely at Hallsville High School's turf field.
