ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's track and field team placed fourth at the 2024 American Southwest Conference Championships on Saturday at McMurry.
Davare Payne was named the ASC Freshman of the Year after a stellar meet.
Payne set a new school record with a 14.26 in the 110 hurdles to win the event. Payne was second in the triple jump with a 46-10 ¼. He placed second in the long jump on Friday.
Javarian Belcha placed sixth in the 100 with a 10.77. Adan Santoyo was sixth in the 400 with a time of 50.00.
Chris Freeman placed sixth in the 400 hurdles with a 1:00.14.
Gunner Helm placed second in the high jump at 6-4 to beat teammate
Garret Rothans who placed third also at 6-4.
Kareem Mason added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with 42-0 ¾.
Nathan Mangual placed third in the shot put with a throw of 45-00 ½,
Evan Hanson was fourth at 44-10 ¾, and Aiden Looper was sixth at 41-11 ¼.
The 4x100 team of
Bain Shanklin, Payne, Belcha and
Donovan Simmons ran a 41.49 to place second. The 4x400 relay team placed third with Belcha,
Chris Freeman,
Billy Heath and Santoyo. They ran a 3:23.12.
McMurry won the team title with 263 points. East Texas Baptist was second with 164 points, UT Dallas was third with 152 points, HSU was fourth at 108, LeTourneau was fifth scoring 95 points, Concordia had 24 points for sixth and Ozarks placed seventh with three points.
