DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' senior student-athletes
Mercy Mummert and
Austin Brewer were named American Southwest Conference 2023-24 Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor Award Recipients, announced on Wednesday.
Senior Cowgirl soccer defender
Mercy Mummert holds a 4.0 GPA as a biology major and was named to the all-ASC first team as a defender in 2023 for the fourth time in her career. Mummert was named all-region and a Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches and was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American in 2023.
Austin Brewer led the Cowboy basketball team and ASC in rebounding and was named all-ASC as a center and was on the ASC All-Defensive team this year. Brewer posted a 4.0 GPA as a senior math major and was named academic all-district by College Sports Communicators.
The Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor is the highest honor one can achieve as an American Southwest Conference student-athlete. Presented by the Faculty Athletics Representatives, the Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female member of each member institution's graduating class who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics, and leadership over their collegiate career.
