MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy baseball team fell 12-2 to the ETBU Tigers in the American Southwest Conference tournament to end the season in Marshall.
The Cowboys won the opening game of the ASC tournament against UMHB before falling to UTD in the second round. Hardin-Simmons matched up with top-seed ETBU in the elimination game on Friday night and went down 12-2.
The Tigers got up to a 6-0 lead after a solo homer in the first from Wagner and five more runs in the third inning.
Jacob Hollingsworth doubled home a run to get the Cowboys on the board 6-1 in the fifth inning.
Jett Forrest singled through the left side to get the second Cowboy run in the fifth inning, but that capped out the scoring for Hardin-Simmons who went down 12-2.
HSU had seven hits and ETBU had 11 hits and one error in the game.
Luke Kirkbride and Forrest led the Cowboys with two hits each.
Grant Mitzelfelt started for Hardin-Simmons pitching and had three strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings.
Jace Martinez threw a couple innings and
Brandon Girod also had two innings pitched.
Jaydon Stephens finished for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys finish the year with a record of 15-26 and another trip to the ASC Tournament. This was the final game for Cowboy head coach
Steve Coleman who announced his retirement after 27 years at the helm of Hardin-Simmons. We were privileged to have him and wish him the best in retirement.
