LOOKOUT MTN., Ga. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team dropped the season opener to the Covenant College Scots 4-2 on Friday night in Georgia.
The Cowboys traveled to north Georgia to open the year against Covenant. HSU will play at Berry College on Saturday night in Rome, Ga. Covenant scored three goals in a quick start to make it 3-0 in the 25
th minute on Friday.
Thomas Saylae got the Cowboys on the board with a goal in the 42
nd minute to make it 3-1.
Senior
Maxwell Winneker scored a goal in the 52
nd minute to open the second half and cut the deficit to 3-2 for the Cowboys.
The Scots got a penalty kick goal in the 70
th minute to make it a 4-2 final score on Friday in the loss for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys shot ten times with five shots on goal in the game. Covenant shot 14 times with nine shots on goal in the contest. Hardin-Simmons led with ten corner kicks while Covenant had four corner kicks.
Carson Null started in goal for the Cowboys and went the full 90 minutes with one save in the loss.
The Cowboys go to 0-1 on the year and will play at Berry College on Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m.
