ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Tuesday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Gabby Aviles gave the Cowgirls the lead with her second goal of the season in the 22
nd minute after an assist from
Kaylee Maddox on the Cowgirl corner kick. The celebration was cut short with a goal from Santa Cruz in the 23
rd minute to tie the game at 1-1.
The half passed and Santa Cruz took a 2-1 lead in the 79
th minute to put the pressure on HSU with little time left in the match.
Taylor Koch notched her first goal as a Cowgirl with an assist from
Mercy Mummert in the 86
th minute to tie the game and end it in a 2-2 tie for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls had 14 shots with eight shots on goal in the game. Santa Cruz shot eight total times with three shots on frame. The Cowgirls led the game with five corner kicks to four corner kicks from UCSC.
Jenna Russell started the game in goal for the Cowgirls and played the first 45 minutes.
Abigail Medlin played the second half in goal for the Cowgirls and had one save.
The Cowgirls move to a record of 1-1-1 on the season after the draw with UC Santa Cruz. Hardin-Simmons will travel to Roanoke, Va. to play Lynchburg and Roanoke at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday, respectively.
