LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team stormed back to win 77-73 over LeTourneau on Saturday to improve to 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play.
The Cowboys came off a win to start ASC play on Thursday at ETBU and remain undefeated in conference play after the win at LeTourneau.
Hardin-Simmons led 39-36 at the half after shooting 48% going 15-31 in the first half.
Trevion Howell finished the first strong with an and-one layup to get the Cowboys up by three points heading in.
The Yellowjackets pushed out to a 60-51 lead midway through the second before the Cowboys made a push to regain control.
Hardin-Simmons outscored LeTourneau 21-4 from the 11 minute mark in the second half to get to the largest Cowboy lead at 72-64 with under four minutes left. The Cowboys held the lead and iced to game for the win 77-73 on Saturday.
The Cowboys shot 49% on the day and held LeTourneau to 37% shooting. HSU led the rebounding category with 42 boards to 34 and finished with 17 assists.
Three Cowboys scored double-figures at LeTourneau, led by senior
Austin Brewer with 15 points. Brewer shot 7-10 and led the team with nine rebounds.
Will Bartoszek scored 13 points for HSU and freshman
Matthew Alexander scored a career-high 13 points as well, going 5-7 from the field.
The Cowboys improve to 9-8 with their fifth-straight win and start the ASC season 2-0 with a trip to Brownwood next Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Howard Payne.
