SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team took down the Trinity Tigers 79-75 on Tuesday night on the road with a career high in scoring for senior
Kynnan Shields.
The Cowgirls came out ahead early with a 23-7 lead after one quarter. The Tigers battled back to make it a 36-29 HSU lead at the half.
Things got all knotted up with the score tied 52-52 heading into the fourth quarter. The Cowgirls went up by seven points on a few occasions before a Tiger comeback made it 75-75 with a minute to go.
Madison Williams hit a 3-pointer and the Cowgirls held on defense to end the win 79-75 at Trinity.
Shields finished with 19 points for a career high and led the team with 12 rebounds. She shot 7-11 and made 5-7 free throws.
Aiken Semones led the Cowgirls with 22 points with six made 3-pointers against Trinity. Williams finished with 11 points for HSU.
The Cowgirls shot 44% on 28-64 shots and had 38 rebounds to 27 from Trinity, who shot 49% in the game making 31-63 shots.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 14-1 on the season and is ranked No. 13 in Division III with American Southwest Conference play beginning Jan. 16 on the road at East Texas Baptist.
