BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 American Southwest Conference match to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday night at Cru Soccer Field.
The game remained scoreless through the first half as the Cowboy defense held strong against the Crusaders. Goalkeeper
Carson Null recorded three second-half saves and finished with three total stops on the night to keep Hardin-Simmons in contention.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (10-1-2, 3-0 ASC) found the breakthrough in the 50
th minute when Yannis Benae scored the lone goal of the match off an assist from Aidan Aguilera-Reeves. The Cowboys shot dead-even with UMHB at ten shots each and matched the opponent with four corner kicks earned.
Offensively,
Benny Lube led Hardin-Simmons with four shots, including two on goal, while
James Webb added two shots on frame.
Hardin-Simmons fell to 3-7-1 and 0-2-1 in ASC play and will travel next week to Jackson, Miss. To play at Belhaven on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. before heading to another conference game at East Texas Baptist in Marshall on Oct. 18 with a 5 p.m. kickoff.
