JACKSON, Miss. – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference match Wednesday night against Belhaven University on the road at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
Belhaven's Ciaran Colvin scored both goals in the first half, striking first in the fourth minute off an assist from Matt Smith and again in the 16
th minute to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.
Hardin-Simmons (3-8-1, 0-2-1 ASC) tallied 15 shots, including five on goal, while holding an 12-6 edge in corner kicks. Junior midfielder
Benny Lube led the Cowboys with four shots and two on target. Goalkeeper
Griffin Cardwell recorded three saves, all coming in the second half.
Belhaven (9-3-4, 2-0-2 ASC) managed eight total shots with five on frame, while keeper Danny Bahena posted five saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The Cowboys were issued one yellow card in the match and Belhaven finished with four separate cautions in the game.
Hardin-Simmons continues its road stretch Friday, Oct. 17, traveling to face East Texas Baptist in an American Southwest Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
