ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team had a solid day at the Abilene Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,977-yard Live Oak Golf Club.
Harrison Cox had the round of the day for the Cowboys with a 73 and he is in second place overall, two shots behind Ethan Bridges of Southwestern.
Extremely windy conditions and temperatures in the mid-90s led to higher scores for the field but the Cowboy A team is in fourth place and the B team is in seventh place overall.
The A team shot 314 and the B team 321. Southwestern was the only team to break 300 and they lead after shooting 294.
Schreiner is second at 306 followed by East Texas Baptist at 309, HSU and McMurry are tied at 314, McMurry B is sixth at 320, HSU B seventh, followed by Concordia at 322, Howard Payne B at 328 and Howard Payne A at 340.
The Cowboy A team featured three freshmen.
Caden Fields led the way with a 74 and he is in sixth place.
Carson Rosser shot a 78 and is in 17
th.
Peyton Gallaway shot an 83 round in his first round as a Cowboy.
Keaton Blume and
Tyler Merchant shot 81s for the Cowboys.
Cox led the B team with his 73.
Riley Ellison shot an 82 in his first career round.
Jake Koeninger and
Kade Burton each shot 83,
Bobby Dominy had an 84 and
Carter Wilson shot 87.
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes and admission is free.
