ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team placed fourth at its own Abilene Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the par-71, Live Oak Golf Club.
The A team improved 10 shots in the second round and finished with a 314-304-618 total. Southwestern won the tournament with a 294-287-581 total by 20 shots over second-place East Texas Baptist. Schreiner was third at 605. HSU beat McMurry by one shot and were two shots better than sixth-place Concordia.
The Cowboy B team placed seventh with a 321-317-638. McMurry B (644), Howard Payne A (651) and Howard Payne B (658) rounded out the 10-team field.
Harrison Cox, who was playing on the B team, led the Cowboys with a 73-73-146. He finished tied for third in the tournament. Cox finished second in the fields with a one-under par on the par 5s.
Freshman
Caden Fields shot a pair of 74s for a 148 total to place sixth and lead the A team, freshman
Carson Rosser shot 78-74-152 and fellow freshman
Peyton Gallaway shot 83-77-160. Senior
Tyler Merchant shot 81-79 to finish with a 160 total.
Keaton Blume shot 81-86-167.
Cox was joined on the B team by freshman
Riley Ellison who shot 82-81-163. Veterans
Jake Koeninger (83-81-164),
Kade Burton (83-82-165) and
Bobby Dominy rounded out the B team with an 84-84-168.
Carter Wilson shot 87-80-167 playing as an individual.
The tournament concluded the fall season for the Cowboys.
