ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team and senior Allison McGinnis each finished in second place the Abilene Intercollegiate at Live Oak Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cowgirls made a strong push at eventual champion Southwestern but came up six shots short of the title.

McGinnis had the round of the day with a 72, which was four shots better than anyone else in the field. She finished the tournament with an 83-72-155 and finished two strokes behind Southwestern's Sydney Jackson for the medalist title.

The Cowgirls improved 22 shots from the first round and finished with a 329-307-636 total. Southwestern shot 319-311-630. Schreiner was third at 656, East Texas Baptist fourth at 672, McMurry finished fifth with a 680, Concordia was sixth at 685 and Centenary shot 710 to round out the field.

McGinnis with three birdies and four bogeys in the one-over-par round. She tied for the tournament lead with four birdies. Addison Payne and Aly Navarro each finished tied for eighth. Payne shot 83-78-161 and Navarro shot 80-71-161. Navarro played the par threes under par. She was the only player in the field to do that.  

Freshman Ariana Chavez placed 12^th overall with an 87-76-163. The 76 was her new career low round. Shay West had a top 20 with an 83-85-168, good for a tie for 19^th.

Julia Hughes had an 87-84-171 total playing as an individual. She established a new career low with the 84. Abby Shumate set her career low with a 93 on Tuesday and finished
with a 101-93-194 total. Kahlan Green had her best round of the season with a 98 in the second round and finished 102-98-200 for the tournament.

The event closes out the fall season for the Cowgirls.
