DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team was ranked No. 20 in the nation by D3hoops.com and picked to repeat as ASC champs in the 2025-26 American Southwest Conference preseason poll, voted on by the league head coaches and sports information directors.
HSU topped the poll with 29 points and seven first-place votes after finishing the previous year as ASC champs and playing in the NCAA Sweet 16 against No. 1 NYU. Head coach
Matt Brackett got the Cowboys to a perfect 8-0 record in ASC play, becoming only the fourth team to accomplish the feat in the near 30-year history of the conference.
Hardin-Simmons won the ASC championship for the first time since 2017 last season and defeated Cal Lutheran and the University of St. Thomas in the NCAA tournament before traveling to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Cowboys return ten players from last year's team.
Three Cowboys were named ASC Preseason Players to Watch,
Chris Bryant,
Silas Davis, and
Asher Fleming. Bryant led the Cowboys with 15 points a game last year, and both Bryant and Davis were named all-ASC players for Hardin-Simmons.
Coach Brackett and the Cowboys return to the floor November 7 against Texas Lutheran at home with tip-off at 5 p.m. in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
