IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team continued their season undefeated with a 71-53 win over the University of Dallas Crusaders on the road Thursday to get the Cowboys to 4-0.
Hardin-Simmons led 35-33 at halftime following a back-and-forth first period that featured six ties and eight lead changes. The Cowboys then dominated the second half, outscoring Dallas 36-20 while holding the Crusaders to just six made field goals after the break.
Junior forward
Chris Bryant led the Cowboys with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Asher Fleming added 13 points on an efficient 5-of-6 night, while
Jamar Ingram scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Tyler Williams and
Jared Cox each contributed eight points off the bench, helping the HSU reserves outscore Dallas 28-4.
Defensively, Hardin-Simmons forced 19 Crusader turnovers and recorded ten steals, converting those opportunities into 24 points. The Cowboys also controlled the boards with a 32-27 rebounding advantage.
Dallas was led by Thomas Fleming with 16 points and Chandler Holmes with 14. The Crusaders fell to 0–1 on the season.
Hardin-Simmons returns to action next week as the Cowboys prepare for their next home game on Tuesday, Nov. 18 against the Concordia Tornados starting at 6 p.m. in the Mabee Complex.
