GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl basketball team finished the Southwestern Pirates 75-49 on Saturday afternoon on the road to claim the fifth Cowgirl win in a row.
HSU climbed back in after a slow start and took the lead 17-10 with big 3-pointers from
Caroline Croft and
Tayley Bullen and six points from
Jacqueline Berry in the opening quarter. Berry ended the day with a team-lead 15 points against Southwestern.
The Cowgirls increased the lead to 35-26 going into halftime and held it 47-36 over the Pirates through the third quarter. Southwestern pulled within seven, down 47-40 early in the fourth quarter, but HSU put their foot on the gas and won big 75-49, outscoring the Pirates 28-3 in the fourth quarter.
Berry led with 15 points, Maesyn Gay and Bullen scored 12 points, and Croft finished with ten points and a career-high six steals at Southwestern. Croft also led Hardin-Simmons with six assists while Berry had five assists.
Hardin-Simmons led the rebounding margin 41-33 and finished with 18 steals, forcing 23 Southwestern turnovers in the game.
The Cowgirls are now 5-1 with five wins in a row for coach
Kendra Whitehead's team. They will go on the road to play at Texas Lutheran on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
