ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons volleyball earned a decisive 3-1 win over McMurry on Tuesday night inside the Mabee Complex, taking the non-conference match with set scores of 25-27, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-21.
The Cowgirls (15-8) bounced back after dropping a tightly contested opening set, responding with three straight set wins fueled by steady offense and a strong defensive effort. HSU posted 49 kills and 65 digs as a team while limiting the War Hawks to a .139 hitting percentage.
Senior outside hitter
Liz Keidl led the Hardin-Simmons attack with 12 kills on a .450 hitting clip, adding a block assist for 12.5 points.
Leigh Jespersen added a strong all-around performance with 11 kills, ten digs, and four blocks, while senior
Abbi Allen contributed seven kills and three blocks to anchor the frontline.
The Cowgirl defensive unit was paced by libero
Kat Martinez, who finished with a season-high 29 digs, and setter
Allison O'Shaughnessy, who distributed 24 assists, recorded five service aces, and chipped in six digs.
Fellow senior setter
Keatyn Rodgers added 17 assists and four digs to support the balanced offense.
HSU recorded 12 team blocks and matched McMurry with eight service aces, controlling momentum late in sets to close out the match.
Hardin-Simmons will finish the regular season this Saturday in San Antonio with games against Southwestern and Trinity beginning at 11 a.m. hosted by Trinity.
