ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team powered through to finish off the win 88-80 against the Schreiner Mountaineers on Saturday night at the Mabee Athletic Complex to improve to 2-0 on opening weekend.
The Cowboys had career-high scoring nights from juniors
Silas Davis and
Tyler Williams and senior
Jamar Ingram, with 21, 15, and 20 points apiece, respectively.
Davis combined for 4-8 from the floor with three 3-pointers and went 10-10 from the free throw line. Ingram shot 8-12 with a three-pointer and Williams had 15 points in just 12 minutes on the court for HSU.
The Cowboys trailed 42-36 at the half to a strong start by Schreiner. The last Mountaineer lead was 49-48 with under 13 minutes left before the Cowboys went on a tear, outscoring the opponent 32-15 en route to the victory at home.
Trevion Howell and
Chris Bryant both scored double figures in the Cowboy win. Howell had 13 points on 5-8 shooting and Bryant finished with 11 points and led the team with three blocks against Schreiner.
The Cowboys started the season 2-0 in the first weekend of play and will host McMurry on Tuesday, Nov. 11 starting at 7 p.m. in the Mabee Athletic Complex.
