LONGVIEW, Texas — Chris Bryant scored a career-high 29 points and powered Hardin-Simmons to a 119-106 win over LeTourneau on Friday night at Solheim Arena.
The Cowboys (6-5) were efficient on the offensive end all evening, shooting 40 of 59 from the field and putting together a strong second half in which they scored 68 points. After taking a 51-42 lead into the break, Hardin-Simmons used its physicality and depth to steadily extend the margin, repeatedly attacking the paint and capitalizing at the free-throw line.
Bryant was the focal point of the Cowboys' attack, finishing 12 of 16 from the floor while also grabbing 11 rebounds for a double-double. Andrew Messenger also turned in a career night, scoring a career-high 11 points to go along with key contributions on both ends of the floor. Tyler Williams added 15 points, while DJ Jones and Matthew Alexander each chipped in 14, and Gavin Davis provided a spark off the bench with 13.
LeTourneau (4-3) kept the game competitive early and answered several Hardin-Simmons runs in the first half. Teigan Edwards led the YellowJackets with 27 points and eight assists, and Max Frels added 16.
Hardin-Simmons will return to Abilene for its next contest, hosting Arlington Baptist on Monday night at 6 p.m. inside the Mabee Athletic Complex.
