SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team finished off the Leslie Robinson Classic hosted by Trinity with a win over the Saint John's Johnnies 81-71, improving to 8-6 on the season.
Asher Fleming and
Chris Bryant both scored 20 points to lead the Cowboy attack against SJU on Sunday afternoon. Fleming shot 7-for-12 and finished with five rebounds and three assists for the Cowboys, while Bryant had a 7-for-9 shooting game with eight rebounds and five assists.
HSU went up 38-33 at the half with a
Jared Cox three-pointer on the final possession of the half. Hardin-Simmons shot 56 percent in the game, making 30-of-54 shots. SJU had the edge in rebounding 34-33 over the Cowboys.
The Johnnies were able to tie the game up a few times in the second half, but Hardin-Simmons extended the lead late and won 71-61 playing at Trinity on Sunday afternoon.
Tyler Williams scored ten points for HSU in the win to go along with the pair of 20-point outings from Fleming and Bryant for the three Cowboys in double-digits for scoring on Sunday.
Head coach
Matt Brackett and the Cowboys will take the weekend off before traveling to Orange, Calif. to play at Chapman on Monday, Dec. 29 at 4 p.m.
