ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team outlasted the LeTourneau YellowJackets 89-82 on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Athletic Complex.
The Cowboys built a 44-35 halftime lead behind 18 first-half fast break points and maintained control despite multiple second-half runs by LeTourneau. HSU finished 23-of-30 from the free-throw line, including 16 conversions in the second half to close out the win.
Hardin-Simmons shot an efficient 32-of-58 (55.2%) from the field while outscoring LeTourneau 54-36 in points in the paint. The Cowboys also held a 40-36 rebounding advantage and received 24 points from the bench unit.
Tyler Williams led HSU with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Chris Bryant contributed 13 points and four rebounds, while
Asher Fleming added 12 points and four boards.
DJ Jones and
Matthew Alexander each scored 11 points for HSU.
LeTourneau was led by Jackson Mayes with 25 points and nine rebounds, while Teigan Edwards added 21 points and eight boards.
Hardin-Simmons will go on the road next Friday on Dec. 12 to play the LeTourneau YellowJackets again on the road in Longview, Texas at 6 p.m.
