TOPEKA, Kan. – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl track and field team competed at the Washburn Invite on Saturday in Topeka, Kansas for the first indoor track meet of the season.
 
Emily Perkins led the Cowgirls in the 60m with a time of 8.24. Perkins also led HSU in the 200m with a time of 26.84 for the Cowgirls. Riley Birck led the team in the 400m with a finish of 1:03 and Jasmin Mendez ran an 800m in 2:42 for Hardin-Simmons.
 
Mendez competed in the mile run with a time of 5:57 at Washburn. Avalon Griggs cleared 4-09 ft. in the high jump for the Cowgirls and Hely Smith led the long jump with a jump of 15-05 ft.
 
Lenora Busby threw the shot put 27-06 ½ ft. and threw the weight throw 39-01 ft. for Hardin-Simmons on Saturday.
 
The next Hardin-Simmons track competition will be at the Dan Scott Invite in Lubbock, Texas on Jan. 26.
