ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team dropped a 74-68 game to Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The game went back and forth the entire contest with nine ties and 11 lead changes. HSU led 18-16 after the first quarter and moved the lead out to 38-34 at halftime.
UMHB pushed the lead out to 49-42 midway through the third quarter, with an 11-2 run and led 53-52 going into the final quarter.
Kynnan Shields basket with 2:28 gave the Cowgirls a 65-64 lead. UMHB regained the lead and led 70-68 with :48 to play when Amillion Fowler hit a free throw with :26 to play to give UMHB a 71-68 lead. The Cowgirls had a 3-pointer to tie the game but it rimmed out and UMHB iced the game at the foul line.
UMHB shot 50.9 percent in the game and the Cowgirls shot 36.2 percent.
Berry led the Cowgirls with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Madison Williams added 19 points for HSU.
UMHB had five players in double figures, led by Katelyn Brooks 17. Josie Bruder added 15, Rachel Okoye scored 14, Adyson James had 11 and Amillion Fowler scored 10.
The Cowgirls are now 16-4 overall and 2-2 in ASC action. Mary Hardin-Baylor improved to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Cowgirls remain home on Thursday when they host LeTourneau at 5:30 at the Mabee Complex.
