Cowgirls Go to Extras to Sweep UHV on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VICTORIA, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team went to the eighth inning in game two to finish off the sweep of the Univ. of Houston-Victoria, winning 8-5 and 4-3 in extras on Saturday afternoon on the road.
 
The Cowgirls had 13 hits and three errors in game one while the Jaguars hit nine times and also had three errors.
 
Kristen McMillan doubled home a Cowgirl RBI in the second and Haley Henson drove in two more RBIs to follow to make it 3-0 HSU in the second inning.
 
UHV added two runs in the third to make it 3-2 before the Cowgirls scored again on a passed ball and a throwing error to lead 5-2 in the fourth inning.
 
The Jaguars scratched back with two more runs to make it 5-4 in the fifth, but Hardin-Simmons extended the lead on another passed ball and a Caitlin Clem single for two RBIs in the sixth inning. HSU held the lead to win 8-5 in game one.
 
Kelly Shackelford had the win for the Cowgirls game one, pitching five innings with two strikeouts. Hannah Aaron finished the game with two innings and two strikeouts.
 
Henson led the team with three hits out of the leadoff. McMillan had two doubles and Jazlynn Cantu added a pair of hits as well for the Cowgirls.
 
HSU went the distance and then some to take down UHV in game two in eight innings 4-3.
 
Gabby Montanez pitched a complete game for the Cowgirls with three strikeouts, getting around nine Jag hits.
 
The Cowgirls also had nine hits in game two, with a Cantu single plating the first run and a Lindsey Ratcliffe double getting an RBI to make it 2-0 Cowgirls in the third inning.
 
Cantu added another RBI on a sac fly in the fifth to make it 3-0, but the Jags were able to tie the game up in the final inning 3-3 to force extras.
 
Ratcliffe led off with a triple in the eighth inning and Madi Hubbard drove her in with a sac fly to right for the winning run in the 4-3 game, with the defense holding on for the win in eight innings.
 
Ratcliffe had three hits with a double and triple for the Cowgirls. Henson finished with two hits and extended her hitting streak with a hit in each of the first eight Cowgirl games of 2025.
 
Hardin-Simmons improves to 7-1 on the season and will head over to San Antonio to face Texas A&M San Antonio on Sunday for two games beginning at 12 noon, hosted by St. Mary's.
