SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team split a doubleheader playing against the Texas A&M San Antonio Jaguars on the road Sunday, dropping game one 8-3 and winning game two 9-0 in five innings.
The Cowgirls got out to a lead in the first game with an
Ella Salinas double and RBI but A&M scored eight runs in the next three innings. HSU couldn't come back to tie and fell 8-3.
The Cowgirls had eight hits and one error to 11 hits and two errors from the Jags in game one. Salinas finished with three hits and two RBIs and
Haley Henson continued her hitting streak and had an RBI as well.
Kelly Shackelford started in the circle for the Cowgirls and had the loss in four innings.
Hannah Aaron pitched the final three and had one strikeout.
The Cowgirls turned around and blanked the Jaguars 9-0 in short order for game two to win in five innings.
Hardin-Simmons had ten hits and gave up only three in game two. Henson,
Madi Hubbard, and
Grace Thompson each had two hits, Henson and Thompson with a triple. Hubbard,
Jazlynn Cantu, and
Kristen McMillan each hit a double for Hardin-Simmons.
Henson,
Ava Dennis, Salinas, Cantu, and McMillan each had one RBI while Hubbard and Thompson led the day with two RBIs each in game two in San Antonio.
Henson now has a hit in all ten games the Cowgirls have played this season,
Gabby Montanez pitched for the Cowgirls with two strikeouts in the five-inning win. She got her fourth win of the season in the Cowgirl route.
Hardin-Simmons improves to 8-2 and will have the weekend off and will host Arlington Baptist on Feb. 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at Ellis Field.
