RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy basketball team finished up the regular season with a win at UT-Dallas 83-76 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Hardin-Simmons shot a good 49 percent in the game but excelled from deep, making 12-20 of their 3-point shots, coming in at 60 percent. That's the most the Cowboys have made from behind the arc all season, with the next closest being games with nine made 3-pointers.
HSU came out strong and led by 16 points, up 37-21 with five minutes to go in the first half. UTD finished on a great run to make it 39-36 Hardin-Simmons at the half.
The Cowboys held their lead for the remainder of the game, getting up to 65-56 with just over nine minutes left.
The Comets cut the lead to three points before a huge 3-point shot from
Trevion Howell to extend the lead 77-71 with two minutes in the game. Howell scored a career-high 16 points, sinking four shots from deep.
Chris Bryant threw down a dunk late and helped to finish the win 83-76 at UT-Dallas. Bryant led the Cowboys with 20 points and had a 3-pointer of his own.
Asher Fleming scored a career-high 16 points for the Cowboys with four shots made from deep at UTD.
Mathew Alexander scored 13 points in the win, going a perfect 4-4 from the field. He added three steals for the Cowboys as well.
Hardin-Simmons finishes the regular season at 16-9 and will await the ASC tournament next weekend at Marshall, Texas hosted by East Texas Baptist.
