RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Sunday to UT Dallas, falling 6-1 and 10-5 in Richardson.
Game 1
The Comets scored four unearned runs in the second inning. Noah Angus had an RBI double. Albert Garza had an RBI groundout and Trent McCown had a two-run single.
HSU scored its lone run on an error in the fourth inning. UTD added two runs in the sixth on a Lucas Rexin single.
Five different Cowboys had one hit each.
Alex Carte started and took the loss to fall to 0-2. He allowed four runs but they were all unearned in two and two-third innings of work.
Caleb Smith worked two and two-third innings and
Bo Bolton made his first career appearance and recorded a pair of outs in the seventh.
Dylan Collings earned the win on the mound for UTD. He allowed one unearned run over six innings and struck out six.
Game 2
The Cowboys jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. HSU scored a pair of runs on wild pitches and a third run came in on an error.
UTD added a run in the first on a McCown double and the game remained 3-1 until the sixth inning. The Comets scored four runs in the sixth to take the lead. Nico Fernandez had a sacrifice fly followed by a two-run single by Kole Kinnison and a sacrifice fly by Rexin. UTD added two more runs in the seventh.
The Cowboys scored a pair of runs in the eighth as
Josh Ledbetter had an RBI double and
Jimmy Mathis had a squeeze bunt to cut the deficit to 7-5. UTD added three more runs in the eighth.
Brock Calvillo, Ledbetter,
Quincy McGraw and Mathis had two hits each for the Cowboys.
Jacob Posey started and went three innings for the Cowboys.
Brady Bennett worked two and one-third innings and took the loss allowing four runs.
Johnny Follett,
Guy George and
Jack Kimsey all worked in relief.
The Cowboys are now 2-4 on the year and UTD improved to 6-0. HSU will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts McMurry at 7 p.m.
