VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.. – Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team won its first team title since 2018 with an 11-shot win at the Marlins Invitational at Cypress Point Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
The Cowgirls last claimed a team title in the fall of 2018 when they won the Abilene Intercollegiate.
HSU had three players finish in the top eight overall and five in the top 13.
Ella Campbell shot 80-84-164 and finished fourth overall.
Shay West shot a pair of 84s for a 168 total to place fifth.
Aly Navarro shot a pair of 87s to place eighth overall.
Allison McGinnis improved nine strokes from round one to round two and shot 93-84-177 to place in a tie for 11
th.
Brooke Wooldridge finished in a tie for 13
th with a 90-88-178 total and
Julia Hughes shot 100-94-194.
The Cowgirls finished with a 341-339-680 and won by 11 shots over Virginia Wesleyan. Division I Maryland-Eastern Shore was tied with the Cowgirls after the first round but shot 353 in the second round to finish third at 694.
Johnson and Wales finished fourth at 731, followed by Susquehanna at 734, Sweet Briar College at 745 and Salisbury at 868.
Maddison Long of UMES won the individual crown with a 77-79-156 by two strokes over Amani Narang of Sweet Briar.
HSU will next be in action on March 31 at the Eagles Bluff Intercollegiate at Eagles Bluff Country Club in Bullard, Texas.
