Cowboys Fall Late To LeTourneau

ABILENE, Texas – LeTourneau scored 12 runs over the final three innings to rally past Hardin-Simmons, 15-11, in American Southwest Conference baseball action on Saturday at Hunter Field.
 
LeTourneau scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead. HSU responded with an eight-run fifth inning. Justin Blancaflor put the Cowboys on the board with a two-run single in the fifth, HSU scored two more runs on an error and Layden White had an RBI double. Quincy McGraw was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, another run scored on a wild pitch and Baylan Vaughan had a two-run single.  
 
Cannon Negron pushed the lead to 9-3 with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
 
Dane Jones hit his seventh home run of the series a three-run shot in the seventh inning. Luke Kirkbride had an RBI fielder's choice in the seventh to make the score 10-6.
 
Then the game turned in the eighth inning when the bottom three batters in the lineup were given free passes with two hit by pitches and a walk. Austin Widerhold had an RBI single to plate a run and Johnny Follett was replaced by Javin Zooloski. He came in to face Jones who hit a nubber back to Zooloski and his throw to the plate was dropped for an error, plating another run. Xander Nabors followed with an RBI single and then a fielder's choice tied the game at 10-10. LeTourneau added another run on an error and two more runs on an Issac Price single.
 
Jones added a two-run triple in the ninth inning. HSU scored on a Brock Calvillo RBI double in the ninth.
 
Vaughan had four hits in a 16-hit Cowboy attack. Nabors and Baker led the YellowJackets with three hits each.
 
Clayton Holt the fifth of six pitchers for LeTourneau earned the win and Cruz Cox picked up his fourth save of the season.
 
Jake Trapani worked six innings and allowed six runs for the Cowboys. Johnny Follett and Javin Zooloski worked out of the bullpen.
 
The Cowboys are now 7-20 on the year and 4-8 in ASC play. LeTourneau improved to 18-13 overall and to 10-2 in league play.
