ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy baseball team went down late 14-5 to the Texas-Dallas Comets on Friday to end the series at Hunter Field.
The Cowboys led in the third inning after an RBI from
Brock Calvillo tied the game 2-2 and a wild throw gave HSU a 3-2 lead.
Hardin-Simmons again took the lead in the fifth inning after trailing 4-3. Calvillo hit a sac fly to tie the game at 4-4 and
Jacob Hollingsworth hit a single for the go-ahead run 5-4.
UTD came on late with ten runs in the final three frames to put it out of reach for the Cowboys, going down 14-5.
Hollingsworth and
Baylan Vaughan each had two hits for the Cowboys and Calvillo led with two RBIs.
Jake Trapani went five plus innings in the start pitching and had a strikeout in the no decision.
Brady Bennett was tabbed with the loss, and
Javin Zoolkoski and
Guy George went and inning and two innings plus to finish the day for the Cowboys.
Hardin-Simmons falls to 7-24 and will host Howard Payne next Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at Hunter Field for the ASC series opener.
