Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team completed the four-game sweep of Howard Payne with wins of 8-1 and 9-3 on Sunday in American Southwest Conference play with a big hitting day from
Emily Jacobs.
Jacobs combined for seven hits in nine at-bats for a .777 batting average against Howard Payne in two games. She finished with three doubles and three RBIs combined through both games.
Five Cowgirls had a two-hit game in the first contest,
Haley Henson,
Lindsey Ratcliffe,
Madi Hubbard,
Jazlynn Cantu, and
Grace Thompson with Jacobs leading the team with three hits in game one.
The Cowgirls scored one in the second, one in the fourth, and five big runs in the fifth inning before adding the final run in the seventh to win 8-1. Cantu and Thompson each had two RBIs to lead HSU.
Gabby Montanez went for her 16
th win in game one pitching for the Cowgirls this season with a complete game, scattering seven hits for one run and a strikeout.
Jacobs upped the ante and hit 4-for-5 at the plate in game two to lead the team. Henson and Cantu each had three hits in the game, and Jacobs, Ratcliffe, and
Erin Love each tied the team lead with two RBIs for the Cowgirls in the 9-3 win.
Akaysia Grogan got her 10
th win of the year with a complete game with five strikeouts in seven innings for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls improved to 31-4 and 11-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the regular season finale coming up in a series against No. 1 ETBU at Ellis Field in Abilene starting May 2 at 4/6 p.m.
