Smith Player of the Year, Williford Coach of the Year in ASC Awards

DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowboy tennis team took home two major awards in the 2025 American Southwest Conference men's tennis end of season honors, announced on Wednesday by the conference office.
 
Payne Smith was named the Most Valuable Player in the ASC after an undefeated regular season in conference at one singles. He finished with nine singles wins and seven doubles wins in the first two flights on the season. Smith was also named to the ASC sportsmanship team and first-team all-ASC at flight one singles.
 
Hardin-Simmons head coach Shane Williford was named the ASC Coach of the Year in men's tennis after finishing as the ASC regular season champs with a record of 4-0. The Cowboys hosted the ASC championship tournament and finished runner-up in the championship match.
 
Three Cowboys were named first-team all-ASC in singles competition. Along with Smith, Nick Boquet was first-team in second flight singles and Zach Fowler was honored at first-team for third flight singles.
 
Fowler picked up his second all-ASC recognition of his career as a senior and Boquet earned his third honor as a graduate.
 
Three more Cowboys were named second-team all-ASC for singles. Brandon Curiel, Paxton O'Shea, and Maddox Foster each earned the recognition of second-team at flights four, five, and six of singles, respectively.
 
Fowler and O'Shea were also named second-team all-ASC in first flight of doubles for the Cowboys.
