MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team dropped two games in the 2025 American Southwest Conference championship tournament on Friday, going down 7-4 to ETBU and 8-4 to LETU in the elimination bracket.
The Cowgirls started the day in the winner's bracket with a game against the top-seed East Texas Baptist Tigers. The Cowgirls looked to advance to the ASC championship after a tough series against ETBU to end the regular season.
ETBU took the lead 2-0 in the first inning and the Cowgirls came back to lead 4-2 in the second inning.
Hardin-Simmons scored on a sac fly from
Kristen McMillan and two RBIs from
Emily Jacobs.
Ella Salinas doubled to drive in the fourth Cowgirl run in the inning.
ETBU climbed back into the game with runs in the third and fourth inning to tie the game 4-4 and scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to lead by three. The Cowgirls did not score again and went down 7-4.
Akaysia Grogan started pitching for the Cowgirls and threw four innings with three strikeouts in the no decision.
Gabby Montanez had the loss in two innings to finish for Hardin-Simmons.
The Cowgirls turned around and played LeTourneau in an elimination game immediately following the first game on Friday. LeTourneau won 8-4 and the Cowgirls ended their trip to the ASC tournament in the elimination game.
LeTourneau scored eight runs in four innings to get the win 8-4. The Cowgirls scored two in the third and one in the fourth but a grand slam gave the YellowJackets a solid cushion in the win.
Jacobs had two RBIs on a single and
Grace Thompson and
Madi Hubbard hit RBIs for the Cowgirls for the team's four runs.
Kelly Shackelford had the loss in three innings in the start.
Akaysia Grogan threw four innings in relief with three strikeouts for the Cowgirls.
Hardin-Simmons drops to 32-9 on the season and will await the NCAA selection show on Monday to see if they get an at-large bid.
