GRANBURY, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship, played at the Nutcracker Golf Club in Granbury.
The Cowboys had a good early start and were tied for first place midway through the round when the tournament went into a lightning delay. After the delay, the Cowboys slid back a few spots but are still in contention for the title.
Mary Hardin-Baylor finished the day with a 288 to take a six-shot lead over East Texas Baptist. LeTourneau is third at 299, HSU is one shot behind at 300 and Howard Payne is in fifth with a 319.
The tournament is a play-six, count-four format.
Andrew Bin led the Cowboys with an even-par 72 and is in fourth place overall.
Jake Atherton shot a 73 and is in seventh place.
Jack Estes finished with a 77 and
Luke Jun shot a 78.
Kade Burton (82) and
Tyler Merchant (83) were the drop scores for the Cowboys.
Owen Prewitt of LeTourneau shot a three-under-par 69 and leads Cole MacMillan of UMHB and Caleb Esting of ETBU by one shot.
The Cowboys will tee off on Saturday in round two, starting at 8 a.m.
