ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl softball team fell 6-1 and 5-3 in the final day of the regular season playing No. 1 East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference play on Saturday at Ellis Field.
The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning of game one that made the difference in the 6-1 win over HSU.
Hannah Aaron had the loss and
Kelly Shackelford threw six innings in relief for the Cowgirls.
Emily Jacobs had the lone Cowgirl RBI in the first inning. Jacobs,
Haley Henson, and
Kristen McMillan each had two hits in the game to lead the team.
ETBU went up 2-0 early in game two before the Cowgirls got a big double for three RBIs from
Ella Salinas to take the lead 3-2 in the third inning.
The Tigers tied the game on a homerun and scored two in the seventh inning to win the game 5-3.
Gabby Montanez threw six innings in the no-decision with a strikeout.
Akaysia Grogan had the loss with late scores from ETBU with three strikeouts in just one inning.
Hardin-Simmons ends the regular season with a record of 31-8 and 11-5 in conference play with the ASC championship tournament beginning next weekend in Marshall hosted by ETBU with more info and the full championship tournament bracket being released later this weekend.
