IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team had six players honored by the American Southwest Conference coaches in the yearly awards.
First baseman
Brock Calvillo, second baseman
Quincy McGraw, outfielder
Baylan Vaughan and utility player
Jake Trapani were all named to the first team.
Calvillo, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., finished the season with a .430 batting average and had a hit in 37 of the 38 games and finished the year on a 20-game hitting streak. He tied for the team lead with 12 doubles and had two home runs and 33 RBIs. He led the ASC with 65 hits. He will be back for a fifth season next year.
McGraw, a senior from Frisco, hit .325 in his only season with the Cowboys. He had four home runs and 15 RBIs on the year and scored 31 runs.
Vaughan, a senior from League City, finished the season with a .403 batting average and had 11 doubles, scored 36 runs and had 19 RBIs with nine stolen bases.
Trapani was a grad transfer from Austin College and he hit .347 and tied for the team lead with five home runs and drove in 30 runs. He also went 2-2 on the mound, making seven starts for the Cowboys with a pair of complete games.
Sophomore third baseman
Jacob Hollingsworth was named to the second team and freshman pitcher
Jack Kimsey was named to the third team. Hollingsworth, a native of Wylie, hit .320 with four home runs and 25 RBIs. He led the team with 43 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. Kimsey, a freshman from Aledo, went 1-0 with a save and led the team in ERA. He also led the team with 24 strikeouts.
Dane Jones of LeTourneau was named the player of the year and Kolby McBee of Mary Hardin-Baylor earned pitcher of the year honors.
